This gave me the idea to award the first Ethical Recruiter of the Year award at the UusioUra event. With the award, Trade Union Pro wants to highlight good recruitment practices and reduce age discrimination.
You are the one who can influence which workplace will lift the trophy next fall. Tell us which employer you think recruits ethically and responsibly. Voting continues until August 19, 2024. The Ethical Recruiter of the Year will be awarded at the UusioUra event on September 4. In addition, we will draw a spa gift certificate for two among all voters.
What is ethical recruitment?
Ethical recruitment encompasses many things, and not all of them are necessarily found in one workplace. For example, an ethical recruiter treats applicants with respect and actively communicates with them. He or she does not eliminate any applicant based on, for example, age, gender or name. An ethical recruiter describes the job clearly and concisely and does not make unreasonable demands. He or she also does not do unnecessary work or advertise jobs for which someone has already been selected for.
The list below can help you consider whether your workplace would be the ethical recruiter of the year. The more items on the list match your workplace's way of working, the more reason your workplace should enter the competition. The list can also help everyone develop their own recruitment to be more ethical, equal and fair.
An ethical recruiter
- actively communicates matters throughout the recruitment process and does not leave the applicant in the dark.
- tells the salary, thus avoiding unnecessary applications.
- hires people of different ages without prejudice.
- treats applicants equally and equally.
- provides feedback on the application if the applicant requests it.
- demands reasonable things from the applicant and describes them clearly.
- describes the task concisely and in clear language.
- supports diversity and inclusivity.
- talks about accessibility in the job advertisement.
- uses anonymous recruitment, i.e. does not ask for age or date of birth, for example.
- avoids collecting unnecessary personal data.
- recruits boldly and also interviews not-so-perfect applicants who are motivated and want to learn new things.
- behaves respectfully towards the applicant.
- does not apply for positions for which someone has already been selected.
- does not require all applicants to complete prior assignments if the position is open, because the law requires it.
- reads job or applicant information from the CV and does not ask for it on separate forms.
Then just tell me about jobs that recruit ethically!
