The strike affects all Finnish jobs at both Stora Enso and Metsäliitto that are governed by the collective bargaining agreement of salaried paper industry employees. The strike concerns the chemical forest industry units of the companies. About 1,500 members of Trade Union Pro work in the jobs affected by the strike.
The ongoing strike of salaried paper industry employees at UPM-Kymmene, which began on 6 April, will end on 20 April. They are not included in the second wave of the strike.
Furthermore, an overtime ban is still in effect in the entire industry.
Antti Rinne, Chairman of Trade Union Pro, stated that the Board of Pro noted on 12 April that this is the right time to step up pressure on the paper industry to promptly introduce a new collective bargaining agreement, pay hikes that improve equality and a pay system that takes job demands and personal skills into account.
Trade Union Pro appeals to the salaried and non-salaried employees of these companies in other countries to not perform any extra work of the type covered by the strike, as the companies might seek to break the strike by such means.
