Trade Union Pro and SASK support organizing in metal and mining sectors in Indonesia. Why should Pro’s members support colleagues on the other side of the world?

– We need to secure that the workers’ rights and earnings get better across the globe. It’s not charity but semi-selfish advocacy thinking that if the workers’ rights improve everywhere, we’ll also be safe with our current working conditions, explains Matti Koskinen, head of international affairs from the Pro. 

 

Project partners are satisfied with the trade unions for increasing the membership and improving the financial stability and cooperation. Trade unionists have a cautious attitude toward future. Project coordinator Rusmi Atun from the IndustriALL thinks the future is not going to be easy.

 The anti-labor sentiment of the government and employers is visible, says Marlon Quesada from the SASK. 

However, director of education Chandra Mahlan from the mining workers’ union CEMWU reminds to stay optimistic.
